Why volunteer with ARCPEI ?

Volunteering is an important aspect of any non for profit organization. This is especially true in the case of ARCPEI. Many people do not realize what it takes to run a non for profit organization and how much personal time it takes to organize things within the community beyond the scope of simply being on the board.

The individuals that offer their personal time are not paid employees of ARCPEI and do this from the desire to offer community something to do / access. There is an immense amout of time required to have the "privilage" to sit on the board of a non for profit organization. Below is a small example of behind the scenes work that goes on with ARCPEI.

Have meetings with all sponsors
Send out regular updates to community
Create media entries
Create media posters for events

Create writtem media articles
Make telephone calls to potential networks
Create web site
Update web site
Create blogs
Update blogs
Create ARCPEI Quarterly
Update newsletter
Keep books

Pay Bills
Organize meetings
Create agendas
Produce minutes of meetings
Create pride ( takes 4 months of planning )
Organize dance parties
Search for DJ's
Create music lists
Organize youth activities
Coordinate security
Coordinate volunteers
Decorate for events
Set up / tear down of equipment for dance parties / events
Create policy and procedures
Create business plan
Organize office space
Develop strategic plan for next two years

Reaearch strategies that have worked in other areas
Support community members
Create events taken from community feedback

All of this takes a vast amount of time and this is just scratching the surface of what is being done for the community. Someone very wise told me " never negate a volunteer unless you are prepared to stand up and volunteer right at that moment. Another of my favorites is when you catch yourself saying " I could have done that" remind yourself that - you didn't.

All suggestions offered to ARCPE are considered ( given we have enough volunteers ) sooooooooooo if you offer a suggestion remind yourself to volunteer to make that suggestion come to life. Volunteering feels good! It is volunteering that is going to allow us to continue the work we are currently doing.

We would like to thank all of the volunteers who selfelessly given up their personal time to help out with all activities this past year and hope to see them and some new ones this new term of ARCPEI.
